Therapies & Approaches
What is Therapy?
Therapy is both a reparative and healing process as well as a journey of growth and development.
Some people choose to undertake therapy purely for the psychological growth that can be achieved by getting to know themselves better.
Whatever your reason for undertaking therapy, our work together may focus on:
- what is happening in day-to-day life and/or
- understanding the connections between past experiences and present patterns of relating with others, yourself and with your life.
Wherever the focus for your therapy, we will work together at a pace and depth individually suited to your needs, to enable you to achieve:
- greater self-understanding and self-awareness
- effective re-processing and healing of underlying emotions and experiences including physical aspects of psychological pain
- personal growth, development and change leading to more positive and constructive patterns of responding and relating, thought processes and attitudes
- increased coping resources, confidence and self-esteem.
Any therapeutic approach has to encompass a wholistic understanding of your individual needs, goals, aspirations, life context, relationships and living/work environments, alongside the impact of societal and cultural expectations and labels for a successful experience of, and outcome from, therapy.
Clinical Psychologists are trained in a range of psychological therapies and can work with one or more approaches so therapy is tailored to unique personal needs and preferences.
All of our therapeutic work together would be collaborative and geared towards effective understanding, problem-solving and concrete usable interventions.
